While I like emoticons the problem with them is that you can't be sure what they will actually be interpreted as. An example of this is the emoticon that looks like two hands with the palms together. It could be interpreted as a high five or as praying. That's why I prefer to avoid them and prefer to use emotitexts instead since there is less chance of misinterpretation, like [smile].
