You may want to try this clock and weather site specifically designed to Kindle:

The configuration page (which comes up in English on my computer) is
https://0111.github.io/Kindle_WeatherCN/config.html

The weather uses Openweathermap so the "API Key" is a request for a key from that site (which is free).

I found this on GoodEReader (at https://goodereader.com/blog/electro...oogle_vignette).

I went through the code quickly and it doesn't seem to include anything scary.

No promises, though.
