Not Dickens

Doctor Dubois was originally published in Dickens' journal Household Words for June 2 1855.

The real author is Frederick Bayle St. John (1822-1859), and he was paid the sum of 4£ 4sh. for his effort. (The sum may sound rather measly, but it would amount to £550 or slightly more in todays money, according to the CPI Inflation Calculator.)

Regards,

Kim
