How on Earth are you meant to know that? It's not as if the historical scenes were in a type of dream sequence or a different colour profile. Nope, just looks like the rest of the show with no indication it is a different time.
Anybody else struggle watching The Witcher?

This reminds of the video game
Shadow of Destiny which involved time travel. In some cases they used the lighting to indicate where in time you were. As an example, if you traveled 500 years into the past everything was sepia tone. If you traveled 100 years into the past everything was black & white.
