I agree. There is no benefit to Amazon and after the Orwell debacle they won't do such a thing.

It has to be a small percentage of 'sideloaders', who indeed are a small percentage of Kindle users or it would be in the mainstream media and no-one wants bad publicity.

So it's a mistake / bug thing. It would work a bit better if deliberate.
