Why don't you like the Kobo software? IMO the Kobo software is much better and more customizable than that of Kindles and Pocketbooks. And you can easily install another reading software on a Kobo (KOReader, for example), which is only possible on a Kindle if you jailbreak it.
That said, the mobi support on Kobos is very primitive, so it's best to convert your mobis. Kindles, OTOH, don't support epub at all, unless you use the Amazon conversion services or convert them yourself.
