I have a suspicion it's happened before. When I enter metadata I'm normally looking at the source of the metadata, rather than what's happening in calibre.

Thanks for the info.
The fix hasn't been released, so the problem can still happen if the conditions are met. IIRC those conditions are 1) the cell is smaller than some system-dependent value, aroun 50 to 90 pixels, and 2) there has never been a horizonal scroll bar shown for the list view.
The open question is whether there is another condition. We don't see one, and unless it is repeatable we can't fix it.
Running from source would help, but not prove, that the fix works.
