I tried every bit of advice from MR and Sony, then re-installed the firmware, then tried other things. Finally, the light turned from blinking yellow to red like it was charging, so I jumped back and left it alone. About an hour later, my computer beeped and the reader began that "starting up" malarky. I pulled the USB cable, and it went to the book list, just like nothing ever happened. Now it's just fine, except I have to re-install my clock and stuff.
