JDC even proposed to use Carr Dickson, but his publisher wouldn't have it...
My 2cts: try Clayton Rawson (The Great Merlini, Don Diavolo Mysteries). Rawson and Carr were acquainted and pushed each other into writing the best Locked Room mysteries.
