My email is jammed with people expressing support, so I've started a list with regular bulletins and will probably migrate it to a blog or website sometime next week.
As soon as the union manages to get the figures from the university, we've lined up a team to go through them with a fine-toothed comb, then devise an alternative plan.
There's a public meeting on Monday, too. We're going to get some of our tutors to set up a Facebook site, twitter, and the online petition should be enabled by Monday. Our students are already asking what they can do to help, and have been wonderful.
Aside: I am increasingly frustrated with the "establishment" attitude towards (tertiary/on-going/adult) education. Which is in part why I left a teaching post. I always thought they were about finding out how to self-study, to learn how to think, discuss, reason and argue. Now the purpose is about providing a trained workforce that knows how to install widget X into device Z. And so it doesn't seen any point in wasting money in something without direct application.... <descends from soap box rant>

I'm glad you are getting organised; and wish the best for you. As I understand it, part of this will be for facts that should affect (to a lesser or greater extent) other institutions. Has the union (UCU?) tried talking to other establishments?

I fear, pshrynk, that you might just be channelling Lefty again. Could you try purring?
