My Media library has 160,000+ books, and 7 VL's based on the tags and/or #admin-tags. Switching between VL's using next and previous kb shortcuts is more-or-less instantaneous.

Switching between my 8 physical libraries takes 2-4 seconds, start up times are similar.

Libraries are on a WD Black Caviar HDD via a 6Gb/s SATA III interface.

Added: Start up times are slower if the HDD has spun down… more like 10-15 secs.
