aaah, good catch, indeed -- i downloaded the repo initially.
unfortunately i kept trying out things and at some point i managed to reset my kindle.
meaning that all the contents got erased.
starting from a fresh kindle i follow the instructions, but i am not getting anywhere.
specifically after step 12:

for me, the kindle just reboots into the "setup your kindle screen" (see end for screenshot).
it doesn't reboot into the select language screen.
the only difference i can think of between now and the first time, is that my kindle isn't setup (no amazon account, content or anything else)
do you think this is related?
the other thing i can think of is that i am messing up the step 10, 11, 12 in some weird way.

11. Copy the contents of the LanguageBreak folder to the Kindle's root directory, again. (if prompted, overrwrite the existing files).

i am quick enough, to plug the kindle back to the computer.
I copy-paste the full folder from the release meaning all these files:

I eject the kindle from windows, but i
don't unplug it. (maybe i should unplug it?)
and then i press the power button until the screen goes white (just before it restarts) and then i release.
any and all ideas welcome!
