Shortest day, yes. But the change is asymmetrical. The afternoons start getting longer December 10, while the mornings continue to get shorter into early January.

Don't wear a watch at all. I track my steppage with an ancient Fitbit Zip, which is on its last legs, more's the pity. It's perfect for me; I don't want to wear any kind of device or jewelry.
