I have multiple Kindles (PW4 and PW5) with firmware 5.12.5 and 5.14.2.
Since the new Jailbreak has become available nearly a month ago (a big thank you, @Marek), I thought I would risk an update of one of the PW4s to 5.16.2.1.1 and a subsequent Jailbreak with the new LanguageBreak.
After a large number of unsuccessful tries with the LanguageBreak (I couldn't reach the language selection in step 17), I thought that maybe the old jailbreak was still present somehow and interacting with the tries to install the new hack.
I finally tried to use the emergency-bridge-recovery from the old Jailbreak and lo and behold, the Jailbreak was back.
I was then able to install the MRInstaller and Kual, and following that, otarenamebin and usbnetwork.
When I execute otarenamebin, nothing is shown. Logging in and checking the binaries shows, though, that nothing has been renamed. Executing the commands step by step (i.e., mounting the rootfs as rw, renaming both executables, remounting as ro and rebooting) works without problems, and I now have a Kindle that doesn't run the ota processes.
But I find it strange that trying to use otarenamebin from KUAL doesn't change anything, but at the same time doesn't provide any errors or messages whatsoever.
What is strange, in addition, is that both the old Jailbreak-Hotfix and the Update-hotfix_languagebreak (both german and english) cannot be installed and the Kindle shows an error in updating.
My question: Is the jailbreak fully functioning and can I risk connecting to WiFi to re-register my Kindle?
My next steps are to re-install KOReader, and the library-sync extension to sync my Calibre collections.
[Edit]: KOReader doesn't work, neither the normal release, nor the newest nightly release.
So, my second question: What can I do to install KOReader (this might have to do with the first question)?
Thank you again, @Marek, and all the others (especially @mergen3107 who triggered the idea to use the emergency-bridge-recovery) in this thread for the new Jailbreak and all the ideas to use it.
Cheers, Joachim
