Just sticking my head up here for a brief Hello!
Not sure how active I'll be but I will drop by ocassionally. I've had a lot happen in my life in the year and a half.. It all started when I woke up one Satyrday morning with no vision in my right eye! Went to the local emerg who were useless, and made an appointment with a specialist. Got there, and he took one look at the eye, and sent me downtown to another Hospital with a\instructions to see the retinal resident.
Turned out I had a bad infection in the fluid in the eye, and needed both injections in the eye of an antibiotic and oral tablets. (I should add I'd been getting injections to control diabetic macular edema in both eyes at that second hospital).
Antiobiotics only helped so much, so next I was scheduled for a vitreoctomy (replacement of the vitreous fluid in the eye). That helped partially, but not fully, so a second vitreoctomy was scheduledl this time using an artificial solution.
Unfortunately I've never full recovered vision in that eye; have very limited vision on the right side of the eye and none looking ahead.
This last spring, my wife was diagnosed with lung cancer, that was found to have also infected her rib cage. She underwent radiation treatment on the rib cage which helped. Next cam back pain and the discovery of a fracture in the T2 verterbrae and some signs of cancer there.
She had surgery to inject a cement into the vertarbrae and the pain there was greatly diminished. Next came a combination of chemo and immuno therapy. She had two rounds of that, and around the time she was scheduled for the next round, was having breathing challenges. She was admitted to Emerg, place on oxygen for a few days and prescribed steroids and anti-biotics. This semmed to help.
Next came a bad cold / severe cough. Friday she had another of her pre chemo checkups and was diagnosed with pneumonia and again admitted to Emerg.
There they had great trouble inserting a line for blood work and for administring meds, but finally succeeded. I left her side around 7:30 pm when a CT scan was scheduled.
I heard from her a few hours later with the news she was being transferred to a ward in the morning. It was hard to understand her; the respirator she was wearing made it challenging.
At 4am Saturday I had a call from Emerg with the news she had passed away
I'm still coming to terms with this, and need to learn more (hopefully tomorrow) what was the cause of death.
On top of all this, her Mum had a stroke i n January and passed away. Then in late October, her step mum (who she wasn't on good terms with) had a fall on a cruise she had take from Southhampton and passed away! I'm still waiting for more news on her step mum; I know she is meant to be repatriated to the UK tomorrow.
