You mean like Carolyn Keene? (a 'house' Author) I don't even try and cross.
(recent versions of calibre have allowed more Notes to be linked to books. I don't use this, so others will explain)

My Authors column has the name that is on the Cover (original release).

I have a second, custom, #pseudo4 column for use when the cover name was NOT the authors real name. I made entries into Preferences:Searching so that these were considered together.

Because my original reader was folder-file name based, I adjusted how I used Authors.
{#psudeo4} became where I put the Author (list) anytime it went over 3 names and the Original column became (the Editors/compilers) name (ed) or simply '<various>'
