I have accidently gotten a solution.
Copy both Update_KUALBooklet_d0eb25b_install.bin and
Update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_d0eb25b_install.bin to folder "mrpackages", and run ;log mrpi. Then KUAL should be successfully installed.

The version of MR installer should be r19293, and Kual should be coplate.

Good luck.
It worked! :-D
I am not gonna lie, I wasn't expecting it to work at all. For the record, I had the
Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.16.N_install.bin installed before since I am following this guide.

Or, similarly, did you copy the contents from another device manually at any point in time?
It's a "Kindle PaperWhite 3 (2015) WiFi" according to the wiki (S/N: G090G1). And no, I had not copied anything from another device, I had flashed the update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_5.16.2.1.1.bin and started the tutorial over again.

I see that there is a new mrinstaller r19298, do you want me to try that one instead of @Yellow22 / @Jose fix?

Thank you all guys, it was driving me crazy that I was not able to make it work. Hope that @Ruskie_it confirms that it works on their side too :-D
