However ebook apps vary.

If you are just using audio books then make notes of free Jota text editor.

It's a worthy aim. It depends on publisher if it's best to contact publisher (most that also do paper).

Mostly only worth contacting the actual author if it's self-published.

Amazon doesn't "punish" authors as such. They may block sales if the content has too many typos or other related problems (like unproofed OCR) till the uploader fixes it. IMO if the "book" is poorly proofed or bad OCR you are doing author and public a favour getting it blocked till it's fixed. That's not a punishment.

Good luck on trying to contact either authors or publishers.
