Just finished up for this week with sorting things in the house with my parents. This week we tackled the upstairs front room aka the you-never-know-if-it-comes-in-handy room aka the dumping ground of four generations of crap. There's still a big shelving system with containers with tools my father has to sort. A lot of what we went through can stay, some things will be donated, my parents will keep some stuff and I will take a couple of things.
There's a Singer sewing table I had already claimed years ago. I also found a rush stool I like, it's a bit wobbly and needs new rush but I think it can get fixed. I also found the old Olivetti calculator (similar to
this one, but a lot dustier), it was once used by the secretary of our business and later I played with it. Yesterday we found a typewriter from 1897, like
this one, we still have the wooden board it was mounted on, but it's bagged up because it has woodworm. I'll have to see if I can get it restored somewhere, since it's very rusty. It was most likely owned by my mother's father or her grandfather even.
It's good that this week I also, finally, arranged for a big storage locker. My sister will help me get the sewing table and a couple of other heavy things downstairs, hopefully my father has time to take it to the storage facility on Monday.
