Wink Migration, Windows to Linux

I have been a Calibre user for several years and have a large library. While I am in the process of migrating it to a new device I am wondering whether I should migrate the whole library to Linux. But I have questions. . .
  1. Does the library's metadata created by Windows, read and otherwise play well with the Linux application?
  2. Are the related plug-ins used for Windows good to go on Linux?
  3. If I have to re-build, what considerations should I have regarding the existing metadata files (should they remain in the library and re-build time?)

Yes I am anxious about this, but it could be a very good thing for my office environment, as I'm getting older and will be reducing the hardware I have available!
