A billion might be either. Possibly a USA billiion was once called a milliard. Mostly a billion is the USA short scale in a current document, but might not be true in older non-USA documents.
Giga-factory: Meaningless. Might as well call it a ginormus or gigantic factory.
Also to be avoided: Cups in recipes or sticks of butter (two sizes in USA an meaningless most other places). Possibly avoid pints and gallons unless stated whose they are. Volumes for non-liquids. Use the weight.
You can buy kitchen scales and even use them to weigh wool.
