App recommendation to read manga

I’d recommend YACreader. It views most formats, especially the two that you mentioned, and costs $3.99. It was updated just two weeks ago. You can find other cheaper or free readers, but they haven’t been updated in a long while. YACreader works well. I downloaded a cbr file and loaded it into YACreader within moments. It offers a lot of syncing options.

There really aren’t open source apps on the iPad. Apple likes every dev to go through the store, even if the app is free.
