IDK if this remotely helps, but I use one of those honker boxes, the gigantic Tupperware-ish kind, and it takes about 30-35lbs of litter to fill it. Yes, really--a bag and a half of old Dr. Elsley's Precious Cat stuff.
BUT here's the thing. Even with (two now one) large cats, very big, muscular and all that,
they don't tip over, because the weight at the bottom keeps them anchored. That's the trick--it's simply physics. More space, more sand/gravel/litter, keep it fairly full and you should be in good shape. The smaller, lighter, less-filled the box, the greater the odds that it goes flying.
