This morning my parents and I had a discussion about my grandfather's hot air balloon collection.
He was an avid balloonist, member of a prestigious club and several times a year helped out during ballooning fiestas. He had a whole collection of books, articles, framed pictures and other memorabilia (mostly spoons with balloon on them). When he died no one wanted the ballooning stuff, so my father took it because it would be a shame just to throw it all away.
And that was the discussion this morning. What to do with it, since my father still didn't want to throw it away. I jokingly asked if there wasn't a ballooning museum we could donate it to. And there is. It's even near where my father's billiard club is. My father called the man (it seems like a one man operation, he's got his museum in the poultry museum) and he would love to have the books (we didn't know about the other stuff then). So he's also getting the other memorabilia my parents don't want to keep (a picture and a drawing). I already have a wooden wall hanging my grandfather carved himself with a balloon and a set of balloon teaspoons.
It's nice that we can make someone happy with that stuff.
