yes, and what a pool of talent it was ! raymond chandler, dashiell hammett, thorne smith (he wrote topper) to name just three... but the adaptations at the time seemed to be so well done compared to some of the recent adaptations i've seen. screenwriters were excellent too at the time, and directors and actors were amazing.
