Upstairs was a bit lighter, but because of the weird lay out it just didn't work for either of us. The attic was nice, the current owners had build a wall to make a separate room and a landing. But that wall could easily be removed to make a big room.
My sister indeed decided against the great house. She's very sensitive to the type of noise a busy road makes. So we'll keep on searching. The good news is that early next year she's getting a raise and her work is willing to write a letter for the bank/mortgage person so we might be able to have a slightly bigger budget.
Now she's seen how much more house you get if you get a bit further away from Utrecht she's willing to search a bit further from work. So we're going to add some towns to our search list.

Alrighty,, well, tell her that we're all enjoying living vicariously through the Great House Search! LOL. (I should add... that I am very sensitive to noise. I sympathize with her, completely. Always have been; I hear stuff that other folks don't; heard dog whistles as a kid...it can be agonizing, so...I hate that you girls can't get that house, but I do understand.)
I wouldn't increase the budget, myself. I mean, you girls are adults and all that and can make your own choices, but there are enough houses, perfectly good ones, in your pricing range and if you look further out, you'll find something. Rather than burdening yourself with a bigger mortgage than you need, especially against a raise that should come in the ensuing year, ya know? Just...again, this isn't my biz, and I shouldn't stick my nose in, but that's how a BAJILLION people here got ruined, in 2008--they borrowed against future expectations and if it didn't pan out, eeeek. So...now I'll shut up.
Oh...so, now I can go look some more. I see that you didn't like anything I PMed you though, lol! I'm such a PITA...
