I wouldn't argue with the first two points.

But if I am trying to join two specific points, e.g. the top and bottom strokes on the capital letter I, the disk gives more visibility.

To prove it to myself, I wrote "FILTHY RACKET" several times with both types of tips, and got somewhat neater results with the disc, though not as comfortable as the soft cushiony tip.
