the i965 driver is intel's driver. I didn't really expect it to work with your radeon.

But I'm used to seeing the system mesa drivers in /lib/dri rather than /usr/lib, but that may be a distro difference.

The -dev suffix troubles me a bit. It's possible there's a mismatch between the standard and the -dev package. Have you added any 3rd-party sources/ppas to get newer drivers?
