The KUAL installation instructions are long and complicated because of the wide range of hardware, time, and firmware versions. You need to read and follow them carefully.

You have tried to install the kindlet version, which has not worked for years (since fw 5.9.x).

Find the instructions for the coplate version and istall the latest version of that (but first carefully read the first post in the KUAL thread).

After you downgrade to a version lower than 5.9 you can install the kindlet version if you really want to. (I know of no reason not to stick with the latest KUAL, but it is your choice.)
When you install new firmware, whether higher or lower than your current version, you have to reinstall all mobileread packages, including KUAL.
