I hope to upgrade from the old Elipsa to the new one, personally, but I wanted to upgrade my Clara HD to the 2E first. (Aside from the sluggish light controls, I’ve been very pleased with my upgrade.)
As for new templates, everything that the Elipsa 2E has, the older version also has access to. There were several threads about the topic. Lots of coverage. It’s a shame that you missed it. In the future, I’d recommend searching the forums before buying. Still, I’d love to be able to create my own templates for Basic Notebooks. That would be a great addition. I wonder if Kobo would release new template packs, or let third parties offer them.
Hopefully, you’ve come to enjoy your Elipsa 2E’s speed and comfort light now. I’m a bit envious of you.

For some reason I was under the impression the 2E had more templates but the better stylus made a big difference. Writing is so much easier. The stylus on the 1st gen drove me nuts. My fingers kept accidentally hitting the side buttons. I still prefer writing on the Scribe and Boox. I wish B&N would come out with a note device.
