Two different shows with similar themes and one common actor (Tim Matheson).

Virgin River (5 seasons -- starting in 2019 -- on Netflix in the states) is about a big-city nurse/midwife who comes to a small NoCal town to work at a rural clinic run by a crochety Doc (Matheson). Doc's wife made the arrangements unbeknownst to Doc. Slow crotchety acceptance ensues.

Hart of Dixie (4 seasons -- starting in 2011 -- on the CW) was about big city doctor Zooey "Hart" (Rachel Bilson) who accepts a job from a stranger who subsequently dies and leaves his half of a rural Alabama practice to her. She has to fight for her place within the practice with the other partner: a crotchety Doc played by -- you guessed it -- Matheson. Slow crotchety acceptance ensues.

Both quite sappy. But Virgin River is slightly more murdery, where Hart of Dixie was more musical. Both an ensemble, Northern Exposure-type venture in my opinion. I enjoy large ensemble casts.
