I think The Crow could work, set in the present. With all that's been going on in the world they can easily make it as bleak as the setting of the first one. But I do hope they come up with a good, original story, even if the character motivation (they and a loved one get gruesomely killed and he/she returns from the dead to get revenge).
Chances are they overdo it with the baddy, Michael Wincott was deliciously evil, but it's easy to go over the line to laughable cartoony.

I admit a mad pash on Michael Wincott for some years now, lol. I also really liked his brother, Jeff, from
waaaaaaaaaaaay back in ye olden Night Heat days. Jeff, I believe it was, did this hilarious movie...wait,
OH NOPE, that was Thomas Ian Griffith, with Sutherland (Donald, of course!!!), Tia Carrere and John Lithgow (damn, there is
really some talent in there) called Hollow Point.
Total B movie but damn, it made me laugh a million years ago and one of the few comedies that did. Anyway, all those hunky Canuck men!
