You're right, but it just annoys me. The first one or two movies in a franchise are usually okay in quality but often (not always) the quality takes a nose dive.

I think The Crow could work, set in the present. With all that's been going on in the world they can easily make it as bleak as the setting of the first one. But I do hope they come up with a good, original story, even if the character motivation (they and a loved one get gruesomely killed and he/she returns from the dead to get revenge).

Chances are they overdo it with the baddy, Michael Wincott was deliciously evil, but it's easy to go over the line to laughable cartoony.
