On the same topic of that 'Real Animal Heroes' book mentioned earlier:

One of the stories piqued my interest enough to Google for more information. While the book says it took place in 1937, the only evidence I found of it was a newspaper... published in 1878. Which makes me question the validity of pretty much all the book (except a few other stories I've also read from other places).

Especially since the author often go outside known experience. Okay, the person being rescued is unconscious, and there's no witnesses, so how do we know what exactly happened?

This is most pronounced in the last one,

after a car crash a dog apparently pulled his master free from a underwater car... except the master had "been killed instantly in the crash." And then the dog immediately died after doing that. Okay then.
