You do need to add the book to your current goal. Like I said before, Custom Challenges are a subset of your current reading goal.
At first, the plugin just warned the user, now it offers the option to add the books to both current goal and custom challenge.
I don't remember if this is on 1.1.0 or if it is not released yet.

You said there is an error. Do you mean a real error os just a warning?
