The only thing "massively" changing with new firmware is the reading interface. Which you don't use that much anyway, since you're using KOReader.
And, having a new non jailbreakable kindle and the old one, I can tell you that the new interface is way worse anyway, so no: if I were you I would stay with the fw you have.
I would get back to it, if I could.
