I know that this is not a priority for others, but for me, it is. I understand that this seems like a privacy concern to some, but not for me...I'm not worried about Amazon knowing what books I buy from other places, or when/how fast I read them.
The best thing is that I don't even have to jailbreak in order for Whispersync to work on any of my Kindles...my favorite feature comes stock.

Interesting what people consider important. I used only Kindles for many years and usually had more than one in active use; you'd think whispersync was a priority for me too. But nope. As I kept my Kindles offline for most of the time (battery life), using whispersync was a chore for me - I had to switch wifi on, download a book if it was not on the device, wait for it to sync, switch wifi off... I found my place faster manually.
So I gave up on using the Kindle cloud and sideloaded everything from Calibre. That way I could be sure I had the same books on my Kindles and didn't have to wait for the download to finish, to say nothing of the various server problems (often enough downloading didn't work because the Amazon server was down or something; I have no idea if those problems have gone away or still happen). So when I switched to Kobos I was already used to reading on more than one device without using whispersync.
