This is not Dickens - according to Dickens Journals Online the original was printed in Household Words 18. july 1857, and the author is some Geraldine Ensor Jewsbury.

(I learned many years ago that one has to be careful with all the "unknown" works by Dickens floating around. Various publishers all over the world had a tendency to put his name on any anonymous story from his journals :0)
