For what it’s worth:
I just created a regenerating symlink on the desktop: linking to the calibre trash folder. Mainly because I don’t close the app so even the automated tool offered above doesn’t help me.
Each morning I drag the link to the trash bin. Then empty it.
Files I wished to delete in the first place now only take one drag and drop action to get rid of.
