Since it's kind of pointless to have both Shift and Ctrl match to only "and" or only "or".

Ah, but doing a selection:
Ctrl adds or removes ONLY the item clicked
Shift adds (or might remove) ALL the items including current item, from previous last selected item.
(Removal if the item is already selected)
This is GUI behaviour for almost all desktop OSes, Destop managers and programs.
