It would certainly be harder with 24 connections approximately in the space of 5.
I've done some mad repairs but I'd want a break out PCB for USB-C

Certainly USB-C has some advantages but it has too many functions and pins.

You can also buy a USB-C socket with only 6 pins, "for chargers". They don't say which of the 12 pins are connected (AFAIK the 24 pins are in parallel connected flipped pairs).
