As stated by previous posters, you can use any eink Kindle for Download & Transfer (which doesn't mean direct downloads to the device, but downloading the file to your computer) and be able to remove the DRM. It doesn't have to be an old model. This applies to purchased books; Kindle Unlimited books can't be deDRMed this way.
