How do they "trust" a reviewer?
Goodreads, IMDB and Amazon sales (all Amazon) reviews are often gamed or unreliable.

How can this go right at all?

Garbage In, Garbage out.

Actually the Verge writes
Quote:
from verified purchases in an effort to cut down on fake reviews
A seller gets a shill to buy it, or uses their own sock-puppet and viola! a verified but fake review.

Surely Amazon aren't really naive. It's that they don't care. Sales is profit.
