If you used Kindle for PC, that serial number was unnecessary and it won't work by itself - you need a physical Kindle device to register to your account. You thought it worked, because you actually didn't use that number, but the Kindle app for DRM removal. The number just sat there, unused. A number alone won't work, unless you also have the physical device with that number.
