I too had been waiting for LOTR to appear in legitimate ebook formats for purchase - I have several pbook editions that weigh more than my cats - and was thrilled to read sirbruce's post on Sunday announcing their arrival.

Being somewhat apprehensive as to their quality (I too had downloaded Dune & HHGTG - only to have them removed from availability for "reformatting" issues) before launching into a grand re-read of the series - I eagerly perused the "Notes on the Text" section - and was greatly impressed - Yes! HarperCollins had done it right this time! So I punched those "Buy Now" buttons and purchased all the Tolkien from Amazon Sunday night. I then proudly showed my Kindle Home Page to a friend (who is still not convinced on the viability of ebooks) - who calmly pointed out "Tha Hobbit" listing to me.

After years of watching the Simpsons, I now personally know what it feels like to have Nelson pop up out of nowhere with his "Hah-Ha" to highlight my moment of mortification.
