The colour layer over the top of the B&W layer on Kaleido 3 affects the contrast for the viewer. If they both had the same front light level, why would the contrast then be the same for the viewer?
Photo of one of my Carta 1200 screens above the Kaleido 3 screen. Neither with front light so it's a fair comparison. The Kaleido 3 is clearly lower contrast:
