I can't disable Android MTP automount on Linux Mate desktop (Cinnamon desktop disable works). If ANY program, service or Finder/file manager connects then Calibre won't see the phone. The Mate "workaround" is to stop (not kill) the gvs mtp monitor.

I'm not familiar with current Mac, but just agreeing with Kovid.

MTP (Android copied from MS) allows hiding the filesystem that the phone/tablet uses, but the downside is that only one process can connect.
