Is it possible to remove the thin strip of whitespace over the progress bar?

When you remove the icons and options on the progress bar to just have the bar itself (in size 5), you still have a whitespace that cuts into documents and text where the icons go when you toggle having several options (such as battery percentage, book title and so on). Is it possible to remove that whitespace when you've toggled options so that you only have the progress bar itself and nothing else? I've tried a number of options in the menu but couldn't find the right parameters. Running the latest version.
