Although the Kindle Previewer app won't give you a 100% accurate display of what you will see on a Kindle when an ePub is converted, it does a fairly good job at catching errors that will block the conversion. It will also give much more feedback as to the problem.

I had one fail because the OPF file in the ePub did not have any "title" metadata. Kindle Previewer told me this, and it was a quick fix with the Calibre editor.
