Maybe, for the next 3 months, unless they have some objection (that wouldn't make sense to me, but...family, ya know?), why not just...go a little more flexible? Take the days you need, don't take the days you don't and average it out to the needed number of hours/week?

Yes, I'm getting paid for it. I work 24 hours a week. And if I want to I can chance my schedule however I want to. But in general I like working 5 days, the regularity works for me (Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm and on Fridays from 9 am to 1 pm). But if I want a day off I can divide the lost hours however I want to.
If I wanted to I could just work three full days. But I'm on my own most of the time. My father usually helps 1,5 to 2 hours a day and then in the afternoon he brings boxes to the garage or goes to the recycle station to drop of recyclables and trash. We also blocked the shop window with a white tarp, to discourage people from ringing the doorbell or coming inside. But it also means I can't people watch. There is little diversion in the store and I think if I worked thee days of 8 hours mostly on my own I would go crazy.
